Fred D Thompson Federal Building & Courthouse

Greathouse was proud to help design the landscaping for the new Fred D Thompson Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Nashville’s downtown.

This stately structure stands out with its landscaped courtyard, adding to the pedestrian experience found on Church Street (like the Public Library) and nearby hotels. The site itself is 275,000 square feet and features an abundance of natural light.

The design consists of native hardy plants to minimize irrigation and maintenance requirements. There are also native and adaptive shrubs that require less water and stabilize the steep slopes. And formal evergreen hedges contain wildflowers that are butterfly and bee attractors.

The project was completed in 2022 and Greathouse still maintains the landscape.
